Gazler.ca — Privacy Policy
Effective Date: 2026-08-20 Last Updated: 2026-08-20
Gazler.ca ("Gazler", "we", "our", "us") operates https://gazler.ca and its installable (PWA) version (the "Service").
This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, how long we keep it, and what you can do about it. It is written to comply with Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (as amended by Law 25) and with PIPEDA.
Short version: Gazler is a public price-lookup and route tool. You can use every current feature without an account and without giving us your name or email. We do not sell personal information.
1. What we collect
1.1 Information you type in
- Addresses you enter for route search (start, destination) and for map centring. Sent to our geocoding provider to convert into coordinates, and to our routing provider to calculate a route.
- Support and feedback messages, including any contact details you include.
1.2 Device location — only if you allow it
If you tap the "use my location" control, your browser asks for permission and, if you grant it, gives us your device's approximate coordinates. We use them to centre the map and pre-fill a route origin.
- Permission is requested at the moment of use, never in the background.
- You can revoke it at any time in your browser or device settings.
- Everything on the Service can also be done by typing an address instead.
1.3 Collected automatically
- IP address (and the approximate region derived from it)
- Browser type and version, operating system, device type, screen size
- Pages visited, referring page, timestamps, interaction events
- Errors and diagnostic logs
1.6 What we never collect
Gazler does not accept user-submitted fuel prices, photos, reviews, or public profiles. There is no user-generated content on the Service. We do not collect payment information — the Service is free.
2. Cookies, analytics, and advertising
2.1 Strictly necessary
Session and preference storage (language choice, fuel-type selection, consent state, security). These are required for the site to work and are used without consent, as permitted by law.
2.2 Analytics
Gazler does not currently use any analytics tooling. This section will be updated, and the consent banner extended, before any is introduced.
2.3 Advertising
Gazler does not currently show advertising. This section will be updated, and the consent banner extended, before any is introduced.
3. Why we use it, and on what basis
| Purpose | Information used |
|---|---|
| Show prices, maps, and station details | Location (if granted), addresses typed |
| Calculate the cheapest station on a route | Start and destination addresses |
| Remember your language and fuel preference | Local storage |
| Keep the Service secure and prevent abuse | IP address, logs |
| Fix bugs and improve performance | Diagnostic logs |
| Meet legal obligations | As required |
We collect only what is necessary for these purposes. We do not use your information for automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.
4. Route searches and address data
Addresses you type are sent to LocationIQ and OSRM (via LocationIQ's directions API) to resolve coordinates and compute a route. Those providers process them under their own privacy terms.
We do not attach your search history to a profile. Route searches are not stored after the request completes.
Addresses and coordinates are never placed in shareable URLs or third-party query strings beyond what the routing and mapping requests require. When you tap a navigation button, your destination coordinates are handed to Google Maps or Waze by opening a link — after that, their privacy policies apply.
5. Sharing
We do not sell personal information. We do not disclose personal information for monetary or other consideration.
We share information with service providers acting on our behalf:
- Railway — hosting and database storage
- CARTO — map tiles
- LocationIQ — address search and autocomplete
- OSRM (via LocationIQ's directions API) — route calculation
We may also disclose information where required by law, to respond to a valid legal demand, or to protect the security, rights, or property of Gazler or its users.
If Gazler is sold, merged, or transferred, personal information may transfer with it; you will be notified and this policy will continue to apply until replaced.
6. Where your information is stored
Our infrastructure and service providers may process and store information in Canada, the United States, or elsewhere. Information stored outside Quebec may be accessible to foreign authorities under the laws of those jurisdictions.
Before entrusting personal information to a provider outside Quebec, we assess whether it receives adequate protection, as Law 25 requires, and we use contractual protections with our providers.
Gazler is hosted by Railway in the US West region (United States). Your personal information may therefore be processed and stored in the United States, where applicable privacy laws differ from those of Quebec.
7. How long we keep it
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Server and security logs | Gazler's own application does not log personal data; server-level logs are retained per Railway's (our hosting provider's) own platform log policy |
| Consent record | Kept while your choice remains in effect |
Historical fuel-price records are about stations, not people, and are kept indefinitely. They contain no personal information.
When personal information is no longer needed for the purpose it was collected for, we delete or anonymize it.
8. Security
We use HTTPS for all traffic, access controls on our infrastructure, hashed passwords where accounts exist, and monitoring and logging. Personal information is confidential by default: any account or alert feature ships with the most privacy-protective settings on, without action from you.
No system is perfectly secure. If a confidentiality incident presents a risk of serious injury, we will notify the Commission d'accès à l'information and affected individuals as required by law, and record it in our incident register.
9. Your rights
You may:
- access the personal information we hold about you;
- correct it if it is inaccurate, incomplete, or ambiguous;
- withdraw consent for analytics, advertising, location, or alerts at any time;
- request deletion of your information, subject to legal retention obligations;
- request portability — receive your computerized personal information in a structured, commonly used technological format;
- ask how your information is collected, used, and disclosed;
- complain to us, and then to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (https://www.cai.gouv.qc.ca) if you are not satisfied.
Write to contact@gazler.ca. We respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
10. Children
The Service is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 14 without the consent of a parent or guardian. If you believe we have, contact contact@gazler.ca and we will delete it.
11. Third-party sites
The Service links to third-party sites, including Google Maps, Waze, and the Régie de l'énergie du Québec. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. Review their policies separately.
12. Changes
We may update this policy. When we make a material change, we will update the "Last Updated" date, publish the revised policy here, and give notice on the site before it takes effect, as required by law.
13. Person responsible for the protection of personal information
Under Quebec law, Gazler has designated a person responsible for the protection of personal information:
Gérald Moïse, Person in charge of the protection of personal information Gazler.ca Email: contact@gazler.ca
14. Contact
Gazler.ca Email: contact@gazler.ca Web: https://gazler.ca
15. Language
